STAR in general allows automated and intuitive RTL editing primitives: add ports/instances, add connections through hierarchy, move load/move driver, change reference, copy design, etc.
STAR-ECO secures last minute changes at either gate-level or RTL designs.
With STAR-ECO, there is no need to make fixes at gate, compile the netlist to avoid any break, etc. At gate level, a user has the ability to cost-effectively make fixes and quickly dump the netlist. The same script can be considered to automatically reflect same changes on the RTL.
The new generated RTL takes benefit of surgical changes where indentation and comments are preserved. Also, verification and debug mechanisms are provided for both RTL and gate-level designs.
